We’ve been shopping at Safeway steadily (we always shop at Safeway) since the began running their new promotion. We’ve managed to already acquire 70 stamps and have turned them in for a shiny new 8.25″ non-stick Farberware pan. So far, we can confirm that it is, in fact, non-stick. Admittedly, we don’t use small pans on a daily basis, but our last small Farberware pan, though it started out non-stick, had become quite – what’s the word – non-non-stick. We have, of course, thrown out that one since we came to possess our new one. I think we’ll find that having a slightly more functional small pan is nice.

We’ve still got some time before January 3, 2017, which is when the promotion ends, so we’re starting to collect 120 stamps in order to get a six quart covered stockpot. After that, I guess we’ll see how much time we have left 🙂

I have now returned from my blog break and will hopefully be publishing more regularly now. To begin with, I’d like to alert everyone of a new Safeway… uh, thing. I’m really not sure what to call it, but we have written about this phenomenon before: it’s basically Safeway’s version of Green Stamps! For every ten dollars that you spend at a participating Safeway, you get one stamp. Once you have saved up a certain number of stamps, you can exchange them for a prize. Last time, you could get anything from a 3.5″ paring knife for 30 stamps to a 20 piece flatware set for 160 stamps. We got a nice 20 piece flatware set which we now save for special occasions and also a set of nice steak knives. All of the prizes were from Cuisinart.

This time, the prizes are various pots and pans from Farberware. While we’re not personally the biggest fans of Farberware products, they’re free! (if you shop at Safeway anyway, which we do) Why not collect the stamps? We’ll be trying to save enough stamps for both a 6-quart covered stockpot and a small skillet. To get both, we’ll need to save 180 stamps by January 17, 2017, when the offer ends. To be honest, though, that really won’t be difficult; we buy a lot of groceries. We’ll have to update you on our progress every once in a while.

In any case, if you do shop at Safeway (or even if you don’t), free things are never bad, are they? And even if you don’t need more pots and pans, you can always give your newly acquired ones to someone who does!

Somewhere during autumn, we wrote about Safeway’s version of Green Stamps. Every time you spend ten dollars, you get one Saver Stamp. When you have a certain number of Saver Stamps, you can redeem them for a prize. A while back, we saved 160 stamps and got rooster silverware. Once again, we saved enough stamps for a prize – six triple riveted steak knives from Cuisinart. A lady in line with us said that the knives are very good quality and very sharp. Yay.

Unfortunately, today is the last day that Safeway will be awarding stamps. The stamps that you have are still redeemable, but your ten dollars will no longer be worth a stamp. Thankfully, we figured out what we were going to try to get after the steak knives. We wanted to get kitchen shears, which requires 30 stamps.

So last night, our dad calculated how much more we’d need to spend to get the kitchen shears. It actually wasn’t that much, so now we can get some kitchen shears 🙂

Some people may have shopped at Safeway for this program; however, we always shop at Safeway, so it was a real nice bonus for our family. We hope they do it again!

If you remember from a while ago, we wrote an article about the fact that Safeway was doing a thing that resembled Green Stamps of old. For every ten dollars of groceries we bought, we would get a stamp and after we had a certain number of stamps, we could redeem them for a reward. We saved 160 stamps and got a 20 piece flatware set! There were three possible designs, and we decided to get the kind that had a rooster on the end (don’t ask me why).

It is very shiny, and we decided to save it for occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now we’re saving up to get a steak knife set, but I’m not sure if we’re going to get there. If nothing else, we can get shears!

If you use the self-checkout at Safeway and you’re participating in this little thing of theirs, make sure you ask the person manning the stations for your stamps!

At participating Safeway stores, a promotion is running to generate more sales. For ever $10 you spend, you get one “Saver Stamp.” If you save up enough saver stamps, you can win prizes – knives, scissors, cutting boards, or silverware, all from Cuisinart.

We’re going for a 20 piece flatware set which requires us to save up 160 stamps, or spend $1,600 at Safeway. We might have to get something less, though, since we only have until January 5, 2016. We have 24 stamps to date and with our garden being done and all, I suppose we’ll be grocery shopping again.

Anyway, this whole idea of saving stamps to win rewards reminded my parents of something called “Green Stamps”. When they were children, the A&P grocery store in Richmond, VA,  gave out booklets and when you shopped and got your green stamps, you licked them and stuck them in your booklet. You could win all sorts of prizes and not from just one company – at least that’s how they remember it. They both said that as children, they loved when their mothers came back from shopping and gave them a handful of stamps to stick in the booklet.

In these modern times, they’re glad we don’t have to lick these stamps. They peel off and have adhesive on the backs 🙂
