We took a trip up to Philadelphia yesterday and noticed that three new buildings had been erected near the Schuylkill River since last we visited. Mostly what I feel is that more sun will be blocked out and there may be even less parking spots for people with cars, but I may be wrong on both points. At least they are very shiny čÖé

Small update on our seedlings. Here is what they are looking like now:

We started our tomatoes and here is what we have planted (each container has 4 seeds in it):

Super Sauce Tomatoes (6 pots)
Sunchocola Hybrid Tomato (1 pot)
Brandy Boy Hybrid (3 pots)
Cherokee Purple (1 pot)
Kellogg (1 pot)
Juliet (2 pots)

Today we are starting

Elephant Ear Sweet Peppers (1 pot)
Yellow Pear Tomato (1 pot)
Beefsteak Tomato (1 pot)
Roma Tomato (2 pots)
Brunswick Cabbages (3 pots)

That’s about it. Enjoy your weekend!

Well, the city is doing construction on the Schuylkill River path right next to the dog park. They are building a boardwalk towards South Street and we don’t know what or where else. A lot of progress has been made on the project since the summer and we decided to take a few pictures.

I remember when they were building the dog park. They built a bridge over the train tracks and connected the bridge to the River Path. They put together the two dog pens and the basketball courts and the walkways that wind around the park. We wrote about the construction a long time ago in the articles Construction on the River Path and They Finished Construction – The Dog Park.

We got some more video of the dogs in the dog park since we were there anyway. People seemed to like the last videos of the dogs (Dogs Walking By), so we hope you like this one too!

While walking down the Schuylkill River path, we noticed that the two signs that mentioned graffiti (written about in another article (The Skate Park Already Got Vandalized) were recently scribbled all over. It’s a little ironic because the signs were an appeal to stop writing graffiti everywhere.

We were pretty sure this would happen because those two signs directly complained about graffiti. None of the other signs got vandalized, just the two that mentioned graffiti. As soon as you tell vandals not to write graffiti, they will usually do it more, and these signs are a good example. When we first saw these signs, we said, “We should get a picture of these and write an article, then when they get graffiti on them we should take more pictures and put those up, too.” Sure enough, they were vandalized and here are the pictures!

Today, we went for a walk on the Path. The Path is really called the Schuylkill River Path, but we just call it the Path. Here are a couple of links to our favorite articles that have to do with the path. Our Observations of the People on the River Path, Art Never Used to Look Like Worms Unless it Was Worms, and “Sculpture” Gardens.

As we neared our old football field (we wrote about that in Our New Football Field May be Doomed! and Throwing Football and Other Things), we saw that they finally opened the skate park that they had been working on for about a year. We wrote about the skate park in the article The Skate Park. Now that it’s finished, we advanced into the park, sat down, and filmed the skateboarders at work. It’s pretty fun to watch them, but we also think the kids there look pretty unintelligent as a whole.

Below are three pictures taken from essentially the same place. One is taken before all the construction, when it was still a grassy field. The next one was taken during construction and the final one was taken today. It is too bad that they built the skate park, because it actually looked pretty nice before.

Another bad thing about the skate park is that it sometimes draws some not-so-nice looking people to the path. The walks on the path may become a little bit less nice, but I guess we can’t do anything about that. Anyway, here is a video of the skate park. That is the “Rocky” museum in the background in the 1st part of the video. We hope you like it!

We went on the walk to the Delaware River two days ago. We have never been there before, and although I am not a fan of the city, I have to say, it was pretty nice over there. Since it was near a Vietnam War Memorial, there were some battleships docked in the water. They looked pretty impressive, with those big artillery pieces on them. There was a really big ship far out on the water that had bigger guns than the one I took pictures of, but unfortunately, my camera was not able to catch it because it was too far away. We did, however, get a good picture of a ship that was closer to us. It was smaller, but it still looked really cool.

There was a big monument with an Italian flag on top of it, and the tower was a monument to Christopher Columbus. After getting some pictures of all this, we soon saw a museum (the name of which was the Seaport Museum) over to our left and we decided to walk to it. Unfortunately, they were closed for the time, but if they are ever open when we are around, we might go in to take pictures.

This area is very nice, but it is a long walk there from our apartment. Sometimes instead of going to the Schuylkill River Path, maybe we’ll go here. We hope you like the pictures!
