We haven’t done a quiz of any type in a while, so I thought I’d let you take one of my physical science quizzes. I only picked out ten questions; I figured that was more than enough. So, without further ado:

1. Define “Atom.”

2. Define “Molecule.”

3. Fifty grams of a carbon disulfide can be broken down into 42.1 grams of sulfur and 7.9 grams of carbon. Is carbon disulfide made up of atoms or molecules?

4. If you put iron near a magnet, the iron will be attracted to the magnet. Rust is made up of molecules which contain iron atoms, oxygen atoms, and hyrdrogen atoms. Rust is not attracted to a magnet. If rust contains iron atoms, and iron is attracted to a magnet, why isn’t rust attracted to a magnet?

5. A statue is made out of copper and displayed outside. After many years, what color will the statue be?

6. Have scientists actually seen atoms?

7. Give the numerical meaning for the prefixes centi, milli, and kilo.

8. If you wanted to measure an object’s mass, what metric unit would you use? What English unit would you use?

9. If you wanted to measure an objects length, what metric unit would you use? What English unit would you use?

10. If you wanted to measure an object’s volume, what metric unit would you use? What English unit would you use?

As always, answers will be posted in three days, on Saturday. Have fun!

Today I took my first science quiz of this year! It was about the sun and the constellations. Unfortunately, they drew pictures of three constellations and had me name them, so I can’t do that part, but I’ll ask the questions about the sun. Oh, and I got a 99 on this quiz! I forgot how to spell scorpion. Okay, here’s the quiz!
