Swamp People – And The Winner Is…..

Yesterday’s episode of Swamp People was not the last in season 6 but the one in which the winner of the bounty was announced. Today we watched it, and it was pretty close. First of all, RJ got a secondary prize of Louisiana blue crabs for having caught the alligator with the most girth. Jay Paul and he caught an 11′ 5″, 800 pound gator up in Mississippi, but it wasn’t the longest, just the fattest.

Most of the other hunters entered something, but Liz and Justin were in 1st place coming in on the last day, with an entry of 11′ 9″. Troy went hunting with his younger brother, Guy, on the last day. They were hunting on property that used to be Junior’s (Troy outbid him and so that land will be Troy’s to hunt on for the next 5 years). There, they caught an alligator that won them $10,000. It was 11′ 10″. He’s upholding his reputation as “King of the Swamp” 🙂

We did feel pretty badly for Junior, though, because he lost the land he used to hunt on and it has big gators on it.

And then, there were Jeromy and David. They were also hunting in Mississippi, and they caught a huge gator there. They measured it in their boat to be 12′ 5″. However, on their way back, they got lost in the unfamiliar swamp. Then they got their bearings but then had to find a different way out due to the fallen water level (whereupon Jeromy commented that he’d rather be kicked between the legs than have that happen to them). Then they had to stop for ice so that their alligator would not  get completely ruined in the heat. And then David drove 50 mph back to the buyer’s, because he wanted to get there safely.

Well, they arrived well after dark, after everyone had already celebrated and left.

They would have easily won the bounty with their 12.5′ gator. Oh well, though, that’s the way the cookie crumbles

So that was the $10,000 Bounty for the Biggest Gator, but the season continues on. Congratulations, Troy 🙂

Swamp People $10,000 Bounty Update

After watching Swamp People episode 11 of season 6 called “Blood Moon”, three more people have bounty entries with only 24 hours left to go before the contest is over.

Liz and Justin were on this episode and brought in an 11’9″ alligator, beating their last entry by 1/2″.

Too bad for them, but R.J. and Jay Paul got an alligator that wasn’t measured yet, but that they seemed to feel was a great entry, and Jeromy and David caught a huge one which they measured in their boat right away. They measured it to be approximately 12′ 5″.

Both R.J./Jay Paul and David/Jeromy traveled to Mississippi to hunt since hunters are allowed to hunt all through the night. Since gators are active during the night, both parties felt like they’d have a good chance…. and they both did.

So unless someone catches something really huge in the next day, it looks like Jeromy and David have the best chance of winning.

Breaking Out of Prison and Swamp People Bounty Update

Sure. Why not kill two birds with one stone? Breaking out of prison and giving an update on Swamp People have nothing to do with one another, but it is just what we wanted to do tonight.

First, breaking out of prison.

Yesterday, a prisoner escaped from a northern Virginia hospital. Around 7:00 am, he stole a car in Annandale, VA. Oddly enough, about 2 hours later, he stole another car right around the corner from where he stole the 1st car.

The police didn’t catch him for another 8-9 hours and they were looking in the wrong place completely. He was caught because someone recognized his face while on a bus in DC. They called the police and he was apprehended.

Well – this got us to thinking. We got to thinking, what would we do if we broke out of prison.

One thing we learned from the TV show “Prison Break” is that you have to find a way to disguise yourself. I mean the guys on that show for the most part just kept their exact same looks with the exception of one man who bleached his hair. But even he pretty much looked the same.

We thought we’d have to wear hoodies and always look down to avoid street and store cameras (face recognition you know) and we thought we’d have to wear fake glasses and do something with our hair. Then we thought about where we would go and how we would avoid both detection and the police.

As for travel, we knew we’d have to have a lot of outside help, like someone to meet you in a car or van right away, and a while later another person. Since most people wouldn’t be too keen on helping a criminal, you might have to ride a bike on a less-traveled path. If we had been this particular fellow, we’d have gone to the Potomac River and stolen a bike to ride on the C&O canal tow path. You can ride almost all the way to Pennsylvania and then you can switch to another trail almost to Pittsburgh. There’s hardly anyone on the path, either.

You could also steal some sunglasses and a helmet, so that you’d be even more disguised. But, once you got to Pennsylvania – what next? After only 5 minutes or so, we both decided that in the end, the whole ordeal would be just too stressful and that we would just go turn ourselves in 🙂

As far as the Swamp People $10,000 bounty goes, Liz and her husband, Justin, just took the lead from David and Jeromy. They brought in an 11′ 8.5″ gator on the last episode. Bruce also ruined his boat and so in addition to his new gun, he now has a new boat and it looks real nice. We still like this show even though we only really enjoy watching our favorite people and don’t much enjoy watching the rest. We usually go get something to eat when they are showing people we don’t like so much.

Okay – so that was some rambling on April 1st. Did anyone do an April Fool’s Day joke today?

$10,000 Bounty – Who’s in The Lead Now

After Episodes 5, “The Pirate of the Bayou” and 6, “Gator Slayer”, Junior Edwards is no longer in the lead.

Joe & Tommy brought in an 11′ 2.5″ gator – not big enough.

Troy & Holden caught a gator they called “Fatboy”. Weighed a lot, but he wasn’t very long so they didn’t enter him

Junior caught “Big John” but he was smaller than his 1st entry, so he also did not enter this catch. Theresa, his wife, has deserted him for a wild river otter, so Junior may be calling on Duggie again even though he doesn’t want to. He thinks Duggie is very weird – which he is, but he’s a good partner.

Liz and Justin caught “Goliath”, measuring 11′ 2″.

But the new winners are Jeromy & David. They caught a gator in Violet with a crab and it measured 11′ 7″, beating Junior’s gator by 1/2 inch.

We are increasingly sickened by all the stupid things the narrator calls the gators and think we are going to create a list if we get amazingly bored over spring break. And once again, we want to complain about the subtitles. Who the heck cannot understand these people? We really don’t get it.

Anyway, we’re sorry Junior is no longer in the lead, but glad for David & Jeromy since they lost money in Raceland.

Swamp People Season 6 Update on Bounty

Yesterday we watched the 5th episode of Swamp People, called “Feast or Fawn” and since we haven’t done an update on the $10,000 bounty in two weeks, we thought we’d do one today.

After the 5th episode, Junior Edwards is still in the lead to get the $10,000 bounty. These were the entries made over the two episodes:

Joe and Tommy: 10′ even

Liz & husband – 10′ 2″

Jacob & Chase – 11′ 2″

Troy & “Holdy” – 11′ 4″

A lot of the entries were close to the biggest, but not quite. Junior’s first entry, 11′ 6.5″, still beats all of the other entries. Anyway, we thought we’d mention just two things from the episode. First of all, the water in the swamp was high, so a lot of people were going to remote areas to find gators.

Bruce, with his new gun, missed once, so after that, to make sure the alligator was dead, he shot them twice thus earning the name “Bruce 2Pop Mitchell” from Ron. Their boat eventually had a lot of gators in it and it was weighed down, so they wound up making a “Swamp Cooler” which just means they put the dead gators in a pool of water near the bank, in a shaded area, and covered them until they were ready to retrieve them later in the day. That worked real well for them.
